We started the day with a walking tour by a local Florencia lady. She took us to all the main spots, we saw the statue of David and the cathedral with the biggest dome in the world. We finished off our tour at a local leather Maker and are shown how to tell the difference between real and fake leather when we are shopping so we dont get ripped off on our holiday and they do a demonstration on how they make their famous leather jewellery boxes with a hinge, without using anything but leather. No nails, glue or anything else. We would have bought one but the small ones cost in excess of 50 euro, they take a lot of time and many processes, it was very interesting.
First impressions of Florence are really not that good, in fact it is my least favourite place we have been too. We have some lunch and do some shopping at the markets. Before we know it, we are not only supposed to be back at our hotel in a half hour to catch a bus to a Chianti winery for dinner, we have walked the whole of Florence and are at the opposite side of the city. We decided to catch a cab back to the room.
The Chianti Winery was definately the highlight of our stay in Florence. We went to a small family run winery, where he took us through the process his family use to make all there different types of wine and then over 5 courses in there beautiful outdoor area we tried all the different types of wine they make.
I stayed up until late tonight so i could ring grandma for her birthday!!! She was very surprised to hear from me. Happy Birthday Granny.
